Mrs. Leola Howell Smith, age 63, of Plano, Texas passed away May 22, 2006, in McKinney, Texas. She was born March 9, 1943, in Plano to Luther Dean and Nora (Hall) Washington. On March 9, 1996, she married Jessie Lee Smith in McKinney. Mrs. Smith was a preschool teacher, teaching at Head Start Program and Holy Family School both in McKinney. After leaving Holy Family, she was Director for United Day Care also in McKinney. She was a member of the Eastern Stars in McKinney and a member of the Douglas Center in Plano and the Plano Senior Citizens. She was also a member of the Good Hope Baptist Church in McKinney, Texas. She is survived by her husband, Jessie Smith of Plano; sons, Greg Howell of DeSoto, Texas and Jason Howell of Van Alstyne, Texas; daughter, Angela Henderson of McKinney; 11 grandchildren; brother, Luther Washington, Jr. of McKinney; sisters, Margie Smith of Gardenia, California and Geneva Edinbyrd of Dallas, Texas; step-son, Jessie Smith Jr. of McKinney; step-daughter, Emmarene Smith also of McKinney; and 9 step grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, George Howell, Jr. in 1991; son, Gerald Howell in 1994; and granddaughter, Kesha Howell in 1987. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon, Saturday, May 27, 2006, in the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel with Pastor Cedric Barksdale and Rev. Jerome Knox officiating. Interment will follow at Pecan Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday at the Good Hope Baptist Church, 407 Lindsey in McKinney.
