Lee Roy Harry

Lee Roy Harry of Allen, Texas, died peacefully at his home September 24, 2014. Memorial services will be held September 30, 2014, at First United Methodist Church in McKinney, Texas, at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at DFW National Cemetery.

Lee Roy was born April 10, 1933 in Sulphur Springs, Texas. He attended Sulphur Springs schools, graduating in 1951 from Sulphur Springs High School. An avid athlete, he played all sports, excelling in football, basketball, and baseball. After graduation, he attended East Texas University in Commerce. He is in the Wildcat Athletic Hall of Fame for Sulphur Springs High School, and the 1952 Hall of Fame Team for the East Texas University Lions. On December 20, 1954, he married Gayle Moore in Commerce, Texas. After receiving his BS Degree, he entered the United States Air Force in June of 1955 as a Second Lieutenant, receiving his pilot’s wings the following spring. He remained in the Air Force for twenty years, serving, in addition to stateside tours, tours in the Azores, Turkey, Okinawa, and twice in Viet Nam. After retiring from the Air Force, he formed Arlington Builders, Inc., building homes in Arlington, Mansfield, Fort Worth, and Pecan Plantation, as well as opening and operating two hardware stores in the Fort Worth area. In 1994, he and Gayle moved to Cedar Creek Lake to enjoy full retirement. In 2002, they moved to Allen, Texas. Lee Roy was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church, and a current member of UFMC, McKinney, Texas. He will be remembered for his devotion to his family and friends, his faith in God, and for his service to his country.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Josie Harry of Sulphur Springs; one sister, Margie Campbell of Durant, OK; his older brother, Billy, of Sulphur Springs; and his twin brother, Eroy, of Arlington, TX. He is survived by his brother, Joe Harry, of Arlington, TX; his wife of almost sixty years, Gayle; his children, Pat of Allen, TX; Dennis of Loveland, CO; Karen of Las Vegas, NV; and Susan of Austin, TX; and his grandchildren, Jason Harry, Anna Harry, Colleen Harry Oliver, Ryan Harry, Maia Slaughter, Zoe Slaughter, Fiona Durnal-Harry, and Olive Durnal-Harry.

In lieu of flowers, Lee Roy and his family request donations be made to help in the fight for a cure for Parkinson Disease, to your local Food Bank, or to the charity or church of your choice.
