Kulathumkal Abraham Varghese

Kulathumkal Abraham Varghese  (Thampi), 70, went to be with Lord on Wednesday September 4, 2013, at his residence with many family members present to witness his last peaceful breath. 

Thampi was born on September 11, 1942 to Abraham Mathew and Sosamma Abraham in Ranni, Kerala.  He graduated from St. Thomas High School in Ranni, Kerala and went on to receive a BSc in Mathematics at St. Berchmans College in Changanassery, Kerala in 1964.  He worked as an electronic engineer at All India Radio in Kozhikode, Kerala for nine years from 1967-1976.  Two years after he began working, Thampi married Rachel (Molly) Thomas in 1969.  The company transferred him to Indore, Madhya Pradesh, where Thampi continued to work for another six years from 1976-1982.  During that time, he was able to complete his MSc in Physics at University of Indore in 1979. 

A few years later, the family immigrated to Dallas, TX in 1982, and he began working  at Boeing in Irving, TX, where he worked for twenty-four years, until retiring in 2006.  In the first of these 2 decades, he earned his Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering Technology in 1989 from Devry Institute of Technology.

He retired one year early due to Parkinson’s disease.  His health started to decline in 2006; first he was walking with a cane, then a walker, and then a wheelchair; he finally became bed-ridden for the last 6 months of his life.

Aside from work and school, Thampi was an active member of his church; he held the position of trustee several time at the MarThoma Church (MTC) of Dallas; he was one of the founding members of Sehion MTC and the first Vice President of Sehion; he was also involved with the Edavaka Mission for most of his attendance at MTC.

Thampi was a loving husband and father.  He is survived by his wife, Rachel (Molly); son, Reji & his wife Annie; and four grandkids, Sara, Hannah, Elijah & Elisa;  siblings,  Aleyamma Vargehese, Saramma Daniel and K.A. Abraham.

Thampi Varghese is preceeded by his brothers, K.A.Samuel & Kunjapy Abraham, and sisters, Mariamma John and Annamma Mathew.

He will be remembered most for his passion for learning and acquiring new knowledge and his extreme love for his family and community.  

A funeral service will be held 9:30 a.m., Saturday, September 6, 2013, at Sehion Mar Thoma Church of Dallas, 3760 14th Street, Plano, Texas 75074. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. the church.
