Mr. Killis W. Melton, age 87, of McKinney, Texas passed away April 1, 2010, in Plano, Texas. He was born December 10, 1922, in McKinney, Texas, to Grady Melton Sr. and Lucretia (Greene) Melton. On October 7, 1944, he married Frances Mathews in Allen, Texas. Mr. Melton was a veteran of World War II, where he served as an air traffic controller in the Army Air Corps. He was a farmer, real estate broker, and managed ‘Clyde’s on the Square’ in downtown McKinney for twenty years. In 1995, he founded the annual Killis Melton Ice-Cream Crank-Off in downtown McKinney. He was a member of the First Christian Church in McKinney. He also loved to hunt and spend time in Gouldbusk, Texas. Mr. Melton is survived by his wife, Frances; daughter, Lucretia Geer and husband, Clyde of McKinney; granddaughter, Ashley LaTour and husband, Mike of Lucas, Texas; and great grandchildren, Mason, Leslie and Lauren LaTour all of Lucas, Texas; several nieces, nephews, other loving relatives, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Leslie Geer; 4 brothers: Marvin; Dolph; Grady, Jr.; and Whit Melton; and 1 sister, Lula Emily Haralson. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 5, 2010, at the Rowlett Cemetery in Plano with Pastor Dave Saffle officiating. The family will receive friends for a visitation from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Sunday at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the McKinney Education Foundation the Leslie Geer Memorial Scholarship Fund, 510 Heard St., McKinney, Texas 75069, (469)742-6313.
