Kathryn Knight, age 85, of McKinney, Texas, passed away on October 16, 2016. She was born June 16, 1931, in McKinney, Texas to Allen and Ora (Clayton) Rouse. On November 16, 1951, Kathryn married Bennie Knight in Dallas, Texas. She was a 1949 graduate of McKinney High School. Kathryn was a lifelong member of First Christian Church in McKinney where she was the secretary for over thirty years.
Known as Memaw, she was a beloved grandmother to her large family and a church grandma to many others. As the family matriarch, she was a model example of a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Known for her cooking, a trip to Memaw's meant the smell of good food and fellowship built on respect. Sewing, quilting, knitting and crocheting were her past times, as well as a source of precious gifts to many family and friends. Devoted in faith and tireless service to her church and family, her smile and friendliness will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her children, Allen Knight and wife Karen of McKinney, Texas; Kent Knight and wife Kris of Lucas, Texas, Steven Knight and wife Kim of McKinney, Texas, Sharon Gotcher of McKinney, Texas and Cynthia Wills of Lucas, Texas; daughter-in-law, Pam Knight of Gunter, Texas; fourteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; many other loving family members and friends.
Kathryn is preceded in death by her husband, Bennie Knight; parents, Allen and Ora Rouse; sons, James Edward Knight and Richard Knight; sons-in-law, Jimmy Gotcher and Scott Wills; and sister, Louise Houston.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon, Thursday, October 20, 2016 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas. Interment will follow at Rowlett Cemetery. The family will receive friends during a visitation being held from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
