IN LOVING MEMORY

Katherine Doris King

May 27 1915 - Oct 10 2011

Katherine Doris King, of Plano, Texas passed peacefully from this life on October 10, 2011 at the age of 96 years. She was born in Baltimore, Maryland on May 27, 1915 to James and Anna Wilhemina Henthorn and was married to Percy Holmes King, a chemist, in 1933. Together they raised three children and resided in many locations including Baltimore, Maryland and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the 1930s. They moved to Los Angeles, California in 1940 where her husband was employed by several aircraft companies. They moved to Fort Worth, Texas in 1950 when her husband went to work for the Convair Aircraft Company/General Dynamics and they lived there until his retirement. Percy continued to work after his retirement from General Dynamics for other aerospace companies in Huntsville, Alabama and Houston, Texas for short periods of time. Their final move was to Plano in 1987. Doris enjoyed meeting and talking to people. She and Percy maintained contact with and exchanged Christmas cards with an extensive list of former friends and neighbors over the years. When they lived in Houston, Doris worked at the Silver and China Department of Foley’s Department Store and became interested in collecting decorative plates, figurines, and collectible dolls. Doris very much enjoyed vacations and trips back to her childhood home of Baltimore. These trips gave her a chance to eat one of her favorite foods—steamed crabs from the Chesapeake Bay. When she was there she liked to sit on the shore of the bay at her parent’s home and watch the large ships and sailing boats move about the bay. Doris was preceded in death by Percy, her husband of 58 years. She is survived by a sister Anna Jean Shepke of Baltimore and a brother Richard Henthorn who lives in Florida; three children, William Holmes King and wife Gwen of San Antonio, Roger Duncan King of Fort Worth Texas, and Elizabeth Ann Gibson of Plano Texas; six grandchildren: William Duncan King of San Antonio Texas, Allison Aldridge-Saur of Ada Oklahoma, Gavan Aldridge of Melbourne Australia, Christopher Gibson of Plano Texas, Kimberly Gibson of Plano Texas, Jason King of Denton Texas; and nine great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your local branch of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty of Animals (SPCA).
