IN LOVING MEMORY

Judy Kay Smith

Oct 16 1951 - Jul 18 2013

Judy Kay Smith passed away unexpectedly on July 18, 2013 in Leonard, Texas. She was born on October 16, 1951 in McKinney, Texas, the youngest daughter of Robert L. “Buster” Hicks and his wife, Joyce Archer Hicks. She attended Sherman schools, graduating in 1969.

Judy married Irby J. Smith, Jr. on February 14, 1974 in Sherman. Her greatest treasure were their sons and families, including Daryl J. Smith, his wife Adawn, their children Walker and Reilly and Joel B. Smith, his wife Jennifer, their children Jayden and Jake, all of Greer, SC. She loved the extended family as her own, including: nephew Brad Boatman, his wife Merielle, their daughter Riley of McKinney; niece Tara Boatman and her son Wyatt Russell of Nacogdoches; children, grandchildren and great grandchildren of Ralph Boatman.  In addition, she is mourned by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Stephen and Patricia “Patty” Macsisak of Trenton, TX and Ralph and Dottie Boatman of Nacogdoches, TX.

Judy was a Registered Nurse, graduating from Dallas Community College, El Centro Campus, Dallas in 1986. Her greatest gift was the care she gave her patients and her greatest joy was sharing: we will never forget her generosity in providing a home for a family devastated by Hurricane Katrina, among many other examples. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and loved being a Sunday School teacher for little children. “…This world was never meant for one as beautiful as you….”

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Judy's name to the Sherman Ex-Students Association, P.O. Box 1351, Sherman, Texas 75091-1351. No services are planned; a celebration of Judy’s life will be held at a later date.
