IN LOVING MEMORY

Judith Marie Weidner Zak

Dec 22 1943 - Aug 18 2011

On August 18, 2011, the angels rejoiced as Judith Marie Weidner Zak, presently of Okmulgee, Oklahoma, passed from this life. To say that Judi loved people would be an understatement. There is not a person who met Judi that wasn’t touched in some special way by her joyful spirit, her loving touch, her godly countenance, or her servant’s heart. Her faith in her Savior was so real and so contagious. She was an overcomer, who trusted deeply in the promises of her heavenly Father. Because of this deep faith, she was truly filled with a peace that only comes from knowing Jesus Christ. Born in Toledo, Ohio on December 22, 1943, to Marie Jagel Weidner and Richard Beaty Weidner, Judi was the oldest of 4 siblings Rick, Elizabeth (Betsy) and Timothy. She was loved by many in high school and served her class as Vice President as well as Homecoming Queen. She graduated from Central High School in 1962. Judi attended Toledo University where she received her undergraduate degree in Special Education and later a Masters Degree in Education. Raising her family was one of the greatest joys of her life. Judi married David Zak in 1965 and raised their three children Alisa, Cynthia and Thad. She welcomed their spouses John, Tod and Paige as her own children and adored her 12 grandchildren Brynn, Abi, Tucker, Zak, Tate, Nate, Kyler, Libby, Colson, Ty, Christian and Benjamin. Of course, they adored their “Grandma JJ”. They loved art lessons and crafting with Grandma, and she always baked them her special oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. Grandma JJ loved baking special cakes for the grandkids’ birthdays. She leaves these dear loved ones behind as well as her sister Betsy, brother Tim, niece Melissa, and nephews Eric, Keith and Ryan. For the past 10 years, Judi has been deeply invested in the work of her dear friend Gertrude Kabatalemwa in Uganda. She has been diligently helping raise funds for Gertrude’s primary school in the village of Nyamabuga, which currently has 400 students. Judi’s heart for the poor and less privileged was so apparent. She worked with kids in the inner city in Los Angeles for several years as well as procuring goods for several ministries that served the poor. Her heart sought to love and serve others and share the good news of Jesus. She was a picture of grace and mercy in our midst, a true prayer warrior who would take your call at any hour of the day and pray with you. She was joyful, creative, energetic, spontaneous, fun-loving, intelligent, tender, compassionate, trusting, courageous, and loyal. She loved life and those who knew her were blessed by her. Her absence on earth leaves a great hole in our hearts, yet we do not grieve without hope (2 Thessalonians 4:13- 18). A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2011, at 10:00 a.m., at Waterbrook Bible Fellowship, 507 Thomas St, Wylie, Texas. Family and friends are invited to the funeral home at their convenience on Friday after 1:00 p.m. to pay their respects and to sign the register book. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you donate to NEEPUganda. www.neepuganda.org
