IN LOVING MEMORY

Joyce Elizabeth King

Jun 30 1932 - Jul 05 2015

Joyce Elizabeth (Oller) King, 83, of Melissa, TX (formerly of Pearland, TX) died July 5th 2015. Joyce, loving wife of Warren “Bud” King, passed away at their home in Melissa after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She is survived by Bud, her devoted husband and best friend of almost 60 years; her two daughters: Debbie Fusselman and her husband Greg of Melissa and Barb Remington of Marietta, GA; and her brother Walt Oller and his wife Sally of Rapid City, SD. She is also survived by eight grandchildren - Stephen Fusselman and his wife Rachel, Elizabeth (Fusselman) Soldi and her husband Steve, Michael, Matthew & John Fusselman, and Alec, Dan & Sam Remington, three great grandchildren (Luke, Thérèse, and Rose Fusselman), and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Joyce was preceded in death by an infant son Rodney and by her parents, George and Vera Oller.

Joyce was born in Plymouth County, IA and later moved to Vivian, SD with her parents and brother, where they farmed and ranched until moving to Rapid City, SD. Joyce graduated Salutatorian of Vivian High School and attended the National School of Business in Rapid City. Not long after Bud returned from serving in the Army in Korea, they married and started their family. When the girls were very young, they headed south to Houston, TX. Joyce was a devoted mom and wife and worked as a secretary, bookkeeper, and office manager before she and Bud and a few partners started their own automotive business in Houston – MTF Equipment.

Joyce loved traveling with Bud, and they enjoyed seeing all fifty states and particularly their visits to America’s national parks. They also appreciated the chance to take several cruises together and visit various parts of the world, especially Australia and Europe. Joyce loved cooking for her family and enjoyed making their favorite meals for them. All the grandkids loved when she was in town for a birthday because they could pick out any kind of cake and she would make it. No visit from Grandma was complete without waking up one morning to the enticing smell of her famous cinnamon sticky buns. Joyce also loved celebrating the Christmas season and enjoyed collecting Christmas ornaments and decorating every room of the house with them. Joyce loved the Lord and heeded well His command to love and serve others. As the Alzheimer’s disease slowly robbed her of her memories, she clung to her prayer book and nightly devotionals, even when she could no longer make sense of the written words. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends, who are thankful for her life and who cherish their memories of her.

A memorial service honoring her life will be held Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel in Allen, TX. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
