IN LOVING MEMORY

Joy Denise Shilling

Dec 02 1951 - Nov 30 2013

Joy Denise Shilling, age 61, of Allen, Texas, and loving wife of James Allen Shilling, passed away on November 30, 2013 at her home in Allen.  She was born on December 2, 1951 in Utica, New York to Walter Leroy and Betty Anne  (Newton) Lynch. Joy and James met in El Paso, fell immediately in love and were married on February 16, 1974 in El Paso, Texas.

Through all of life’s trials and tribulations, James and Joy cherished each other and their time together.  Joy lived life to the fullest and always had an infectious smile.  She enjoyed making new friends - she could talk to a stranger and make an instant close friend.   Joy took pride in creating a home for her family and raising her children and loved spending time with her grandchildren whom she cherished.  Joy had an artist’s touch and an eye for seeing something beautiful in the ordinary. Her creative mind loved painting, working in the yard, cooking and designing anything from floral arrangements to homes to landscaping.  She cherished her pets, her beloved dogs, that she cared for as if they were her children – Scout, Jude, Bijoux and Stedman.  Joy’s sense of humor, love and free spirit soared above the ordinary.  Joy left us way too early and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her loving husband, James A. Shilling of Allen, Texas; daughters, Valerie Shilling and Jennifer Shilling of Austin, Texas and Marianne Young McMillen of San Diego, California; five grandchildren, Kaleb Alvarez, Logan Alvarez, Maya Love Rodriguez, Mason McMillen and Royce McMillen.

Joy was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Betty Lynch; brother, David Lynch and sister Jacquelyn Lynch Arellanes.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 6, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel in Allen, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Thursday, December 5, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
