Joseph Dwight Walker

Joseph Dwight Walker, age 85, of Plano, Texas passed away December 18, 2010. He was born June 4, 1925 in Cleveland, Ohio to Dwight John and Florence Elizabeth (Hoynes) Walker. On August 20, 1953 he married Nora Raleigh in Cleveland, Ohio. Joseph proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. He enlisted in March 1943. Was commissioned a 2dLt in August 1945. He was trained as a bombardier/ navigator (NFO) on an SB2C Helldiver in the American Theater of Operations preparing for the invasion of Japan. After being discharge in 1946, he went to John Carroll University on the GI Bill. He was mobilized for Korea in 1950, promoted to 1st Lt and attended the First Special Session of the Junior School (now Amphibious Warfare School). He served in Korea 1951-52 as a rifle platoon leader in B/1/7 (the Marines went to single-seater aircraft by Korea and didn't need bombardier/navigators so he was re-designated as an 0302 Infantry Officer). He was promoted to Captain after returning from Korea. He was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in McKinney. He is survived by his wife, Nora Walker of Plano, Texas; sons, Joseph D. Walker, Jr. of Plano, Texas and Col. Michael M. Walker USMCR, Retired of 29 Palms, California; daughter, Mary A. Walker of Plano, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dwight and Florence Walker. A Rosary service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, December 23, 2010 prior to the service at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 23, 2010 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church with Father Bruce Bradley officiating. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park, Allen, Texas. Family and friends are invited to the funeral home at their convenience on Tuesday and Wednesday to pay their respects and to sign the register book. The family will receive friends during a visitation on both Tuesday and Wednesday evening beginning at 6:00 p.m., at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, Allen, Texas. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church Building Fund, 652 Redbud Blvd., McKinney, Texas 75069 or to the Youth Achievement Foundation, Inc. P.O Box 670685, Dallas, Texas 75367-0685.
