Mr. Johnny Mac Shanks, age 68 of Mesquite, Texas, formerly of McKinney, passed away January 2, 2006 in Mesquite. He was born on May 7, 1937 to Henry Compton and Ouida Leigh (Coggins) Shanks. On March 3, 1990, he married Marion Gibson in Carrollton, Texas. Mr. Shanks retired as an underwriting operations manager for State Farm Insurance after 46 years. He is a member of The Crossing Baptist Church in Mesquite, Texas. Survivors include his wife, Marion Shanks of Mesquite; son, Johnny Clayton Shanks and wife, Suzanne of McKinney; daughter, Monette Shanks McCollom and husband Kenny of McKinney; 8 grandchildren, Clay, Ross, Cody, Jesse, Justin, Jerrod, Keisha and Josh; cousins, Betty Gatewood of Fruitvale, Texas, Joe “Doodle” Burnside and Earl “Peewee” Burnside both of Bedford, Texas; niece, Leah “Sissy” Hill of Plano, Texas; and nephews, Big Johnny Shanks of Plano and Jack Shanks of Allen, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, James and J.D. Shanks; step-father, Austin “Judge” Justice; and aunt, Lois “Dude” Burnside. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 4, 2006, in the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel with Rev. Charles Brown and Rev. David Bird officiating. Visitation will be from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM Tuesday evening at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home.
