IN LOVING MEMORY

John C. Van Wyck

May 14 1922 - Jan 18 2013

It is with great sadness that the family of John C. Van Wyck, Sr. announces the passing of our beloved patriarch, a kind, and loving devoted husband to Catherine and nurturing father to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His death leaves a void not easily filled. His love and devotion to family and friends will forever be remembered. He was born to the parentage of Theodore Van Wyck and Mae McEnroe, on May 14, 1922 (mother’s day) in Flushing Queens, New York. His mother passed away when Jon was just one year old. Theodore Van Wyck was remarried to Julia Mansfield in 1924 and raised John. John enlisted in the U.S. Army on June 10, 1942 and fought under General Patton in North Africa, in Algeria and French Morocco. He then participated with the liberation of Naples and Rome, Italy. He was awarded the Purple Heart when wounded during battle outside of Rome. While in the hospital in Rome, John learned of his stepmother’s death. John Married Catherine H. Keller on July 30, 1949, in Queens, New York, where they started their family with the addition of John Jr., Bruce and Cathy. John worked at Harris Corporation for many years, until his retirement in 1986, when he moved to be with family in Dallas, Texas. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Catherine; children, John Jr., Bruce, Cathy and her husband Greg Meadows; grandchildren, Craig, Corey, Christie, Cara and Corinne; great-grandchildren, Mason, Braden, Taylor, Cheyenne, Colby and Brielle. On our journey going forward, it is with great joy we celebrate his life.
