John Charles Smith, age 72, of Irving, Texas passed away on January 11, 2015, in Dallas, Texas. He was born on March 5, 1942, in Groesbeck, Texas to Ethelyn (Carter) and Jimmie Smith. John was a retired school teacher of 32 years from MacArthur High School, Irving ISD. John enjoyed Texas Music, entertaining family and friends with his cooking, fishing, and spending time with his daughter and granddaughters.
John is survived by his daughter, Kim Meeks of Frisco, Texas; two grandchildren, Kaylie and Kelsie Meeks of Frisco, Texas; sister, Lynn Williams and husband Charlie of Arlington, Texas; three cousins, Beth Parrish and husband Ron of Fort Worth, Texas, Bob Reed and wife Sandra of Glen Rose, Texas, and Betsy Chutchian and husband Steve of Grand Prairie, Texas and many loved ones and friends.
John is preceded in death by his wife, Janet Welch Smith, and his parents, Ethelyn and Jimmie Smith.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2015, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and the funeral will be Friday, January 16, 2015, at 2:00 PM at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Frisco, Texas, with Pastor Mark Blum officiating. Interment will follow at Rowlett Cemetery in Plano, Texas.
