John Gilbert Roberts

John G. Roberts, 88, of McKinney, TX formerly from Whitesboro, NY and Palm Coast, FL passed away peacefully on Friday, July 10, 2015. He was born and raised in Lyons, KS to the late Rollie R. and Elizabeth E. Roberts. He was the oldest of five children.

He enlisted in the US Navy during WWII as Electrician’s Mate, Third Class on the USS Claxton Destroyer and USS Sigsdee Destroyer. In 1951, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Kansas. He served as 1st LT and Company Commander for the US Army Signal Corps during the Korean conflict. He married his wife of forty-nine years, the late Cecilia Roberts in Zenda, KS.

He was an electrical engineer for Westinghouse and General Electric. This career moved his family from Kansas City, KS to Cincinnati, OH to King of Prussia, PA and to Whitesboro, NY.

After he retired from General Electric, he worked with this wife at H&R Block as a Tax Preparer until 1994. They then moved from snow country to sunny Florida. In Florida, they were very active in volunteer work, gardening and traveling in their camper. In 2004, John moved to Texas to be near his daughter.

He is survived by his five daughters, Mary, Constance, Theresa, Amy, Donna; one son, John; twelve grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one brother, Daniel. He is also predeceased by his brothers, Jerome, William, and his sister, Betty.

Funeral arrangements are by Lohman Funeral Home, Palm Coast, FL. Visitation and funeral mass will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Palm Coast, FL. The interment will be held with Military Honors at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL.
