John J. Nicholas

Survived by wife, Sherri Nicholas of McKinney, daughter Jessica of McKinney and daughter Tara Salvatore of Winter Park, Florida. John is also survived by his mother, Alice Nicholas of Gouverneur, New York, brother and sister-in-law Ronnie and Kathy Nicholas, sister and brother-in-law Kathy and Mike Knowlton, brothers Richard Nicholas Jr. and Ken Nicholas, all of Gouverneur, New York; sister and brother-in-law Paula and Ron Wood of Edwards, New York; brother and sister-in-law Tony and Lyuba Nicholas of Edgewood, Washington; and Butch Gagnon of Phoenix, Arizona; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Tracie and Lennie Lueker of Murphy and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his father, Richard Nicholas, brother Ed Gagnon, sister Shirley Horton, nephew Willie Horton, nephew Peanut Horton and mother-in-law Mary Thompson. John fought a hard battle with cancer but in the end God wanted him for more important things. He was in the sign business for over 25 years, the last 18 of which were for his own business, Nicholas Sign Service. John loved the outdoors and would travel back home every fall to Gouverneur, New York to go hunting with his brothers and friends. He was a friend to all and always there to help a friend with some project as well as always making improvements to his own home. Even in death he was still giving as his corneas were donated so that 2 other people could see. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 19, 2011, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel in Allen, Texas. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen. The family will receive friends during a visitation from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m., Friday evening, at the funeral home. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made in John’s name to: Texas Oncology 12221 Merit Drive, Suite 500 Dallas TX 75251 (Please be sure to put John Nicholas in the memo section Donations are not tax deductible) The family would like to thank Dr. Reddy, Janice Dunham, Dr. Engleman and all of the staff at Texas Oncology Plano for their assistance through this journey.
