John Henry Meier

John Henry Meier of Quinlan, Texas passed away September 25, 2015 at the age of 95 in Desoto, Texas. He was born October 1, 1919 to Frank Meier and Theresa (Koch) Meier in Hackensack, New Jersey. John met Salley Christie in the first grade and it was then decided they would be married. They married on August 1, 1942 in Hackensack, New Jersey. He joined the United States Army Air Corp in 1942 as a photographer during WWII. During the war, John flew many missions over Europe and many prior to the Normandy invasion as military intelligence for the invasion. Many of his photographs have been published and are in museums. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Quinlan, Texas.

He is survived by his son, Christie John Meier of Desoto, Texas; granddaughter, Rachel and husband Ash Harmon of Farmersville, Texas; great-grandchildren, Mason Harmon, Jacob Schaefer and Ashlyn Harmon; son-in-law, Ron Skiles; grandson, Aaron Skiles; and numerous other loving relatives and friends.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Salley Meier; daughter, Salleyann Skiles, sister, Violet Pinque and Helen Yovakim; and brothers, James Meier and an infant brother.

A memorial service will be held in Leonard, Texas and a graveside service will be held at DFW National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas at a later date.
