John "Calvin" Hargrave

John “Calvin” Hargrave of Prosper, Texas passed away July 23, 2012 at the age of 68, in his home surrounded by his loving family where he lost his courageous battle with cancer. He was born June 10, 1944 in Breckenridge, TX, to John & Myrtle Hargrave. Calvin grew up in Graham, TX.

At the age of eighteen he started his career with Chapman Construction, which lasted for fifty years. He worked his way up and ultimately had the privilege to purchase the Company. He did so with his business partner Richard Scoggins. With Richard taking on the role of President and Calvin taking on the role as the Vice-President of Chapman Construction. This was until 2007 with Richard's passing on the 27th of July where Calvin stepped into the role of President. Together they built a paramount power line construction company, which was purchased by Willbros of Houston, TX. He remained the President of the company until his passing.

As a resident of Prosper he helped the community grow through the development of several residential communities, as well as making generous contributions to various community needs.
 
Calvin was a member of Stonebridge United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Cheryl of Prosper, Texas; children, John David Hargrave and wife Edwina of Decatur, Texas, Steven Brent Hargrave of Weatherford, Texas, Anna Shaneé Hargrave Hudson and husband Chaise of Weatherford, Texas, Joe Douglas Shelby and wife Katrina of Fairbanks, Alaska, Christopher John Shelby of Whitewright, Texas, Lisa Michelle Salzwedel and husband Brent of McKinney, Texas; grandchildren, Brittany, Derrick, Bryce, Chase, Aden, Brianna, Tyler, Ashtin, Brenden, Katelynn, Kyle and Avery; great-grandson, Easton; and the mother of Calvin’s children, Linda Hargrave of Weatherford, Texas as well as several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Friday, July 27, 2012, at Stonebridge United Methodist Church, 1800 South Stonebridge Drive, McKinney, Texas 75070, with Pastor Vic Casad officiating.  Interment will be at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen, Texas.  The family will receive friends during a visitation from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, on Thursday evening, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, in Allen, Texas. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
