John Richard Gruble, 76, was born on April 5, 1929 in Mt. Airy, NC and passed away on February 25, 2006, in Plano, TX. He graduated from the University of Tennessee where he played football from 1947-1950. John then played for the Pittsburgh Steelers for one season until he was drafted into the Army. Football was his true passion. He was a long time member and usher for All Saints Catholic Church. John was a devout Catholic and drew strength from his faith. He is survived by his children Karen Deaver of Katy, TX, David Gruble and wife LuAnn of Plano, TX, Beverly Plummer and husband Todd of Dallas, TX, grandson, Grant Gruble of Plano, TX, brother William Gruble and wife Doris Ann of Greensboro, NC, sisters Bette Schroer of Mesquite, TX, Lucille Romeo of Seaford, NY, Clara Welch of Raleigh, NC and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 1, 2006 from 6:00-8:00 p.m., with a rosary in the chapel of Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home at 7:00 p.m. A mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., on Thursday, March 2, 2006 at All Saints Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the DFW National Cemetery.
