Joan Joplin

Joan Joplin, age 84, passed quietly at home on January 31, 2008, surrounded and comforted by family and friends. She was born in Madison, West Virginia, on May 5, 1923, and was raised and schooled in McKinney, TX. She was a Southern Bell who had the trials of Job but remained a true beauty throughout her life. She possessed deep pride in herself and her family. She lived for her children. She collected antiques, was a wonderful cook, loved beautiful things and had family and friends around her all her life. She married Robert Joplin in 1939. She is survived by her son, Robert Charles Joplin III and his wife, Toni; sister, Helen Williams; grandchildren, Paige Akard and her husband John, Jourdan Bo Joplin, and Tiffany Rossics and her husband Jeff; great-grandchildren, Abby and Jack Akard; nieces and nephews, Bobby Mann, Kate Tom Lehrer, Bill Joplin Cunningham, Jo Gayle Howard, Jimmy Williams, Brad Williams, Lance Stewart, Kathy Spencer, and Debbie Wall; many great-nieces and great-nephews; and dearest friends, Jack Haggard and Ed Miller. She was preceded in death by her parents, I.D. and Mary Stewart; her brothers, Jack and Kent Stewart; her sister, Elizabeth Hoke; eight Joplin sisters-in-law; her husband, Robert Joplin; and two children, Mary Ann Joplin Belew and Randy Joplin. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM, Sunday, February 3, 2008, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel with Rev. Charlotte Coyle officiating. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park. Family and friends are invited to the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home at their convenience on Saturday to pay their respects and to sign the register book. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Saturday evening beginning at 6:30 PM.
