Jo Laura Garrett, age 62, of Allen, Texas passed away October 23, 2007, in Dallas, Texas. She was born January 7, 1945, in Coleman, Texas to Vernon and Elease Dorothy (Isaacs) Byrd, who preceded her in death and also her daughter, Jennifer Ann Garrett. Jo Laura worked as a nurse at Collin Memorial Hospital in McKinney for fifteen years and at McKinney Job Corps. for over twenty years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in McKinney where she was president of the choir. She loved the Lord and one of her favorite sayings was “God is Good”. She is survived by her sons, Cecil Garrett, Jr. of McKinney and Calvin Videl Garrett of Allen; daughter, Jordan Pierce of Allen; grandchildren, DeQuan Garrrett of McKinney, Shanta Garrett of Plano and LaToya Garrett of Princeton; great-grandson, Dionte Garrett; brothers, Johnny Williams and his wife, Maria of McKinney, Vernon Grant and his wife, Tina of Anna, Willie Grant and his wife, Vanessa of Irving, Richard Grant of Abilene and Carl Grant of Abilene; sisters, Stella Sims and her husband, Ricky, Patsy Lewis and her husband, Oscar, Mary Grant and Brenda Williams all of Abilene; aunts, Mary Holloway and her husband, Roy of DeSoto, Annie Hearn and her husband, William of Vallejo, CA, Betty Alexander and her husband, James of Princeton; uncle, Walter Isaac of Midland; god-sisters, Willie McMillan of Fresno, CA and Sandra Everett of Allen and Louise Berry of McKinney. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 27, 2007 at First Baptist Church McKinney, 401 West Erwin Street, McKinney, Texas with Pastor Lee Edwards officiating. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park, Allen, Texas. Family and friends are invited to the funeral home at their convenience on Friday to pay their respects and to sign the register book. Memorials may be made to Jo Laura Garrett Scholarship Fund at Chase Bank in McKinney for Jordan’s education.
