Friends and family are invited to a celebration of the life of Jim Mayes at 6:00 PM on Thursday, January 19, 2006 at Meadows Baptist Church, 3001 Los Rios Blvd., Plano, TX. Military honors will follow on Friday, January 20, 2006 at 11:00 AM at DFW National Cemetery in Dallas. Visitation will be from 6:30 PM until 8:30 PM Wednesday at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home. Jim, age 67, passed away January 15, 2006. He was born in San Antonio, Texas to James Auther and Freda Mae (Thomas) Mayes. He was a computer engineer and worked with Geophysical Services for 24 years and 5 years with Texas Instruments. His last job before retirement was with Alcatel. In 1993, he married Kaye Griffin in Plano. Jim was an avid fisherman and loved to play the guitar and read Civil War history but especially loved his grandchildren and family. He was an active member of his Adult IV Sunday School class and participated in choir and orchestra and was an ordained deacon in his church. Survivors include his wife, Kaye Griffin-Mayes; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Deanna Mayes of Elm Mott, Texas, Jason and Nina Mayes of Mansfield, Texas and David Mayes; daughter and son-in-law, Stacy and Mark Stephenson; grandchildren, Eryn Stephenson, Katelyn Mayes, Peri Stephenson, Isabel and Emma Mayes; sister and brother-in-law, Janice and Gene Parris of Marion, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents; the mother of his children, Betty Cole Mayes who passed away in 1992; his son, James Lee Mayes in 1964; and his sister, Joy McCauley in 2002. Memorials may be made to Meadows Baptist Church Building Fund.
