IN LOVING MEMORY

Jetty "Jett" T. Pouncy

Jun 20 1938 - Oct 16 2017

Jetty “Jett” Terrell Pouncy, 79 of Richardson, Texas passed away October 16, 2017. He was born June 20, 1938, to the late Ardie and Florence Pouncy in Gladewater, Texas.  Jett was baptized and became a member of the St. James Church at the tender age of six.  He attended and graduated from Weldon High School. Jett was known for his moves.  He was the master of the jitterbug.  In 1961, Jet married the love of his life, Lena Bradford, of Gilmer, Texas. Together, they had a son, Victor G. Pouncy.  Jetty moved his family to Emeryville, California in 1962 in hopes of better opportunities. Shortly after moving to California, they became members of the New Light Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend L.L. Hester. Later, he became a member of Humanity Baptist Church where he served faithfully until he and his wife retired and moved back to Texas in 2004. He found that great opportunity he was looking for with National Gypsum where he was a loyal employee for 40 years. After becoming a Texas resident, he joined The First Baptist Church of Hamilton Park in Richardson, Texas under the leadership of Pastor Gregory Foster. He served there until his health no longer permitted him to do so. In Jetty’s spare time, he loved to play dominoes, attend church, and barbeque. He was an avid baseball fan and attended World Series games. Jetty absolutely adored spending time with his family both near and far. Some of his fondest memories were sitting under the China Berry Tree (known as the Tree of Knowledge) in Red Rock, Texas with his family.

Jetty leaves to mourn his lovely bride of 56 years, Lena Pouncy; siblings, Maezola Calhoun of Oakland, California, Frank (Doris) Pouncy of Palestine, Texas, and Clarissa Anderson of Los Angeles, CA; son, Victor G. (Laureen) Pouncy and his honorary children Venita (Michael) Smith and Monica Bonds; god-daughter to cherish his memories, Veronica (Kenny) Miller and their two sons; two granddaughters, Kayla Pouncy and Victoria Pouncy; great-grandson, Carlos. He also leaves to mourn a vast host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in laws, wonderful church families, loved ones, and friends who will miss him dearly, but will forever remember his laughter and sense of humor.

He was preceded in death by nine of his siblings, Eva Pouncy- Brooks, Lessie Pouncy-Kelly, Maggie Pouncy-Fisher, Lenzy Kurt “L.K.” Pouncy, Melvin Pouncy, Merlien Pouncy-Jennings, Helen Pouncy Thomas, and Ardie “Bob” Pouncy Jr.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 21, 2017 at First Baptist Church of Hamilton Park, 300 East Phillips, Richardson, Texas 75081.  Interment is to follow the service at Restland Cemetery in Dallas, Texas.
