Jerry Thompson, 71, of Plano, Texas passed away on Monday, August 3, 2015. He was born on October 24, 1943 in Amarillo, Texas. Jerry grew up in Lubbock, Texas and later moved to Grand Prairie, Texas where he worked for the Cotton Exchange. He began his golf career in Waco, Texas in 1968 where he stayed for five years as the Assistant Golf Pro. Jerry later became the Head Golf Pro and Golf Course Superintendent in Lufkin, Texas and Clarendon, Texas before accepting the Golf Course Superintendent position in Andrews in 1982. He remained in Andrews until 2002, retiring after 20 years as Superintendent. After traveling for several years, he settled in the DFW area where his daughter lives.
Jerry is survived by his son, Kevin Thompson and wife Shanna, of Meadowlakes, Texas; daughter, Tonya Harmon and husband Luke, of McKinney, Texas; grandchildren, Kali Thompson, of Meadowlakes, Tex., Emry and Riley Harmon of McKinney, Texas; brother, Ron Thompson of Nederland, Texas; and sister, Roxane Shackelford of San Antonio, Texas.
No public memorial service will be held.
The family will carry on his legacy and love of golf through involvement and support of The First Tee Organization and lung research by the American Lung Association.
