Jeffrey Jan McGuyer

Jeffrey Jan McGuyer, of Rockwall, Texas, passed into God’s loving arms on April 19th, 2015. Jeff was born on November 21, 1949 in Dallas, Texas, to J.D. and Dorothy McGuyer. On June 14, 2001, he married Kathryn Collinsworth in Plano, Texas. After graduating from high school in Commerce, Texas, he entered East Texas State University where he was awarded a Bachelor of Music education degree in 1972. He taught band for the Talco/Bagota, Winnsboro, and Connally school systems and then worked in sales for Prudential Insurance and the Oxford Chemical Company. Jeff went on to further his education, earning an associate’s degree from Eastfield College. This allowed him to spend the rest of his 28 year vocational career as a Mechanical Design Engineer in the aerospace industry. He was employed by E-Systems of Garland and Greenville, later retiring as a Design Engineer for L-3 Communications. Though he had left his music career behind, he never lost his appreciation for music, it continued to enrich his life. He was a conservative Republican actively involved in politics and would passionately discuss it with anyone who would lend an ear. His kind and gentle spirit touched everyone he knew. He also enjoyed traveling and spending time with family. He was a faithful member of North Cities United Pentecostal Church of Garland, which he loved. Jeff was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, always devoting his life to making their lives better.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn McGuyer of Rockwall; daughters, Angela McGuyer of Stephenville, Texas; Laurie Lively and husband Steven of Stephenville, Texas; Julie Blackburn and husband Mark of Stephenville, Texas; Lisa McGuyer of Dallas, Texas; Kristan McGuyer of Forney, Texas; Sherri Puckett and husband Phil of McKinney, Texas; Susan Carrington of Bossier City, Louisiana; Angela Keaster and husband Larry of West Monroe, Louisiana; Lisa Halfacre and husband Eddie of Eldorado, Arkansas; son, Tommy Collinsworth Jr. and wife Rachel of Bossier City, Louisiana; 21 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; father, J. D. McGuyer of Commerce; brothers, Monty McGuyer and wife Lisa of Commerce, Shawn McGuyer of Terlingua, Texas.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy McGuyer and son, Preston McGuyer.

Jeff’s family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to all those who have attended to his care. The family will receive friends and family during a visitation being held from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2015 at 12:00 noon, with Pastor D. G. Hargrove officiating. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Cemetery.
