James H. Taylor

James H. Taylor passed away unexpectedly August 17th at his home in Plano of renal failure. James was born in Forney, Texas on July 29, 1931, to James Monroe and Myrtle (McCollum) Taylor. He proudly served his country in the U. S. Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis. James joined the Dallas Police Department in 1955. His greatest dream was to ride a motorcycle for his life’s work and was a Motorcycle Officer and trainer for 20 years and a Hit & Run Investigator for 7 years. Immediately upon retirement in 1982, he joined the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department where he served for 13 years. On November 22, 1963, he was part of the motorcade escorting President Kennedy and was also responsible for crowd control at Parkland Hospital. James was a 32* degree Mason and a member of The Scottish Rite for over 50 years. He was a true gentleman who was dearly loved and respected and will be sorely missed by his family and all who knew him for his fairness and never ending supply of jokes. Surviving him is his loving wife of 21 years, Martha Cawood Anderton Taylor; daughters, Patti Fuqua and husband, Jeff of Baytown, Texas and Jami Adkins and husband, Tracy of Heath, Texas; 4 grandchildren; 2 great-granddaughters; cherished nephew and niece, Ronnie and Kathy Littleton; and his beloved canine companion, Gracie Ann. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Emma Ruth Shortancy Taylor, stepson, Mark Anderton, and sisters, Yvonne Littleton and Laverne Grabbs. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 22, 2011, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel in Allen, Texas. Interment will follow at Heath Cemetery in Heath, Texas located directly behind First Baptist Church of Heath, 224 Smirl Rd. at Highway 740. The family will receive friends during a visitation from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Sunday evening at the funeral home. Full honors will be provided by the Dallas Police Department. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the DPD Assist the Officer Foundation, 1412 Griffin St. East, Dallas, Texas or the American Kidney Foundation, www.kidneyfund.org.
