Mr. James Dwayne Smithey, age 62 of Rockport, TX, passed away in his home April 12, 2005 following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on November 4, 1942 in Greenville, TX to Raymond Richard and Oleta (Swinson) Smithey. He married Frankie Stapleton on January 11, 1962 in Emory, TX. J.D. was in management with Lone Star Gas and TXU Company. He was employed there for 38 years. He was very active in numerous civic and community organizations. He coached youth sports throughout his life and refereed high school football for 14 years. He also served as statistician for several high schools for the last 12 years. He was affiliated with the Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife, Frankie Smithey of Rockport; son, Scott Smithey and wife, Dawn of Palacios, TX; daughter, DeAnn Ramirez and husband, Ben of El Maton, TX; grandchildren, James David Smithey, Austin Smithey, Brad Smithey, Ryan Ramirez, Jayley Ramirez, and Brett Ramirez; brother, Glen Smithey and wife, Wanda of Greenville, TX; numerous nieces, nephews, and other family and friends. His parents precede him in death. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, April 15, 2005, at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 5871 Virginia Parkway in McKinney, TX, Rev. Patrick McCoy officiating, assisted by Mr. Scott Powell. Graveside services will follow at 1:00 PM at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Wolfe City, TX. Visitation will be from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM Thursday at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to AIM Hospice, P. O. Box 2300, Rockport, TX 78381.
