James Alfred Overfield

Mr. James Alfred Overfield, age 60, passed away at the Presbyterian Hospital January 7, 2010, in Dallas, Texas, following a courageous battle with cancer. James was born on April 25, 1949, in Union City, Ohio, to Ben and Hazel Overfield. On June 12, 1982 he married his wife Peggy and moved from his hometown in Ohio to McKinney, Texas. Jim had a Masters Plumbers license and Journeymans Electricians License. He was a craftsman in remodeling and could fix just about anything. Jim’s very common phrase would be: "Work Smarter not Harder". He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed it. Jim worked for a Plumbing Company when he first moved to Texas. Then he became employed with TI / Raytheon in McKinney, Texas for 23 years. He worked up until he became sick and was diagnosed with Stage Four Pancreatic cancer which had already spread into his liver and lungs. Jim was known for being a great helper to anyone who ask no matter the task, no matter the time, no matter the day. He was also known for showing up at just the right time when something was needed. Jim is survived by his mother Hazel, 98, of Ohio, Wife, Peggy of Van Alstyne, Texas, 4 Sons: Bart Overfield, Vince Overfield and Shannon Overfield of Ohio and Dean Grauman of Van Alstyne, Tx. 1 Daughter, Amber Welch and husband Tommy of Trenton, Texas, Grandchildren: Brandon Grauman of Van Alstyne, Texas, Cody Welch, Nikki Welch, and Cory Welch of Trenton, Texas, Sisters: Karen Dunham and Glenna Overfield of Ohio and Brothers, Jan Overfield of Florida, Ron Overfield, and Randy Overfield of Ohio. He was preceded in death by his father Ben, and brothers, Rick and Gene Overfield. In memory of Jim we are asking that donations be made, in lieu of flowers, to the Mary Crowley Research Hospital, Dallas, Texas, www.marycrowleyresearchcenter.com. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM, Sunday, January 10, 2010, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel, in Allen, Texas.
