IN LOVING MEMORY

James Otis Newman

Dec 01 1917 - Mar 12 2004

Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church in Frisco for Otis Newman on Monday, March 15, 2004 at 3:00 PM with Pastor Billy Echols-Richter and Dr. Chuck Martin officiating. Mr. Newman was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church and was born on the family farm on December 1, 1917, to James and Lula Neal Newman. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 58 years, Allie B. Hand Newman, his stepson, Jack Roberts and 3 siblings, Nathan, Homer and Raymond. He is survived by two granddaughters, Tonya Neely of Battle Creek, Michigan and Jackie Trzebiatowski of Appleton, Wisconsin, 7 grandchildren, and a sister, Genevieve Kerley of Frisco, a brother, Jack Newman of Frisco, 12 nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Otis farmed and raised cattle until his retirement 21 years ago. Living on the Newman homestead, founded in 1841, Otis continued to garden and raise livestock along with his hunting and fishing. He continued to raise goats for the enjoyment of the neighborhood children, who visited the goats daily. Otis’ greatest pleasure was to give a fish fry for friends, family and neighbors. He also gave several for his church which at that time had a membership of 600. He enjoyed growing beautiful roses and flowers around his home. His garden and yard were the envy of the neighborhood and he derived great joy from working tirelessly to keep them looking beautiful. The family would like to thank his friends, neighbors, nurses and doctors, especially Dr. Boyd Jenkins, Dr. Michael Gross and Dr. David Rawitscher, along with the caring folks at Frisco Senior Living for the help and concern during his last valiant days. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to the Building Fund of the First Baptist Church of Frisco. The family will receive friends from 3-5:00 PM on Sunday, March 14, 2004 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 8520 Main Street, Frisco. Interment will be at Little Elm Cemetery.
