James Artis Martin, age 77, of Allen, Texas, passed away July 1, 2008. He was born June 7, 1931 in Unadilla, Georgia to William T. and Bannie (Thompson) Martin. He proudly served in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. On December 2, 1950 he married his first wife, Jackie Wise in McKinney Texas and on December 19, 1987 he married, Dannie Carter Cobb. James was a master mason, where he was a member of the Trinity Lodge, Wylie Chapter. He worked for Kraft Foods in Garland and retired after thirty-seven years of service. He is survived by his wife, Dannie Martin of Allen, Texas; daughter, Diane McMellon and husband, Bryan of Allen, Texas; step-son, Lee Cobb and wife, Janna of Grapevine, Texas; grandchildren, Jeannie Martin, Michelle Hockett and husband, Jimmy, Jacque Head, Amanda Head and Josh Cobb; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Dickie Martin and wife, Sue of Houston, Texas; sister, Betty Alcorn and husband, Jimmy of Garland, Texas and numerous nieces, nephews and other loving relatives. Preceding him in death were his parents; first wife, Jackie Martin; daughter, Elizabeth Jean Martin; son, David Martin; brothers, Benjamin, Henry and Harris Martin; sisters, Nellie Cortez, Eunice Burk and Francis Lynn. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 5, 2008, in the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel with Rev. James Craver officiating. Interment will follow at Restland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Thursday evening beginning at 7:00 p.m., at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, Allen, Texas.
