James Richardson King

James Richardson King, age 66, of Plano, Texas passed away March 6, 2010. He was born December 18, 1943 in Hopewell, Virginia to Leon and Katherine (Richardson) King. James proudly served in the United States Navy. Jim graduated from Louisiana State University and completed his Masters in Computer Mathematics at Naval Postgraduate School. He was an IT pioneer, helping build some of the first electronic banking and security systems, running his own consultancy and finishing with a successful long-term career with Verizon. Jim enjoyed sailing, travel, technology, music, art and gourmet cuisine. He lived life to its fullest and was happiest on trips with his family and friends, enjoying wine and food and spending time with his dogs. He is survived by his children, Alicia King Akins and husband, Paul of McKinney, Texas, James Richardson King, Jr. of Ft. Worth, Texas, step-daughter Amy Bensinger of Seattle, Washington; siblings, Leon Fleming King, Jr. and wife, Lee Ellen of Summerville, South Carolina, Miriam King Macdiarmid and husband, Grant of Pass Christian, Mississippi, Stagg Lipscomb King of Seattle, Washington, Laurie King Weir and husband, Shelby of Dallas, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 13, 2010 in the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel. In lieu of flowers, please honor Jim with a contribution to the American Red Cross Chilean Relief and Development Fund.
