James "Jim" Lee Underwood

James “Jim” Lee Underwood, age 79, of McKinney, Texas, passed away November 30, 2015.  Jim was born October 16, 1936, in Big Spring, Texas, to Alton Eugene and Alta Lee (McDaniel) Underwood.  He married Carolyn Sue Younger on November 4, 1961, in Austin, Texas. 

Jim graduated from Big Spring High School and Howard County Junior College.  After graduation, he continued his education at The University of Texas in Austin where he was member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity.  After college, Jim was affiliated with the savings and loan industry in Dallas where he was Vice President for Oak Cliff Savings and Loan.  He left Oak Cliff Savings and moved to McKinney in 1974 where he opened Town and Country Savings.  He was President of Town and Country Savings in McKinney until 1983.  Then, Jim joined the Texas Savings and Loan Department as a supervisory agent for the state.  He also was employed by the Resolution Trust Corporation.

Jim served on numerous boards including former president of McKinney Rotary Club, former treasurer of McKinney Chamber of Commerce, former Vice President of Eldorado Country Club. Additionally he participated in many civic organizations such as the Planning and Zoning Commission.  Jim was a member of First United Methodist Church in McKinney. 

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Underwood of McKinney, Texas; daughters, Michelle Lee Underwood Thompson and Carin Sue Underwood Morton, both of McKinney; grandchildren, Brittany Michelle Clayton, Stanton Lee Rogers, Emily Sue Thompson, Strother Douglass Thompson, Julia Faith Blackwell, and Abagail Hope Blackwell; great-grandson, Landon Carter Clayton; sister, Betty Jean Newsom of Dallas, Texas; and nieces, Julie Jean Kennedy of Dallas, Jamie Snow of Austin, TX

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 9, 2015, at First United Methodist Church in McKinney, Texas.  The family will receive friends during a visitation from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday evening at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas.
