James E. “Jim” Gilbert, age 84, of Plano, Texas, passed away at his home in Plano, June 13, 2011. Jim was born August 7, 1926, in Cuero, Texas, to John and Johnnie Ledessa (Carpenter) Gilbert. He married Hortence “Mickey” Dean on February 27, 1949, in San Antonio, Texas. Jim was a past member of the Pioneers Club. He played on the Harris County Softball League and was a member of Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano. He is survived by his wife, Mickey Gilbert of Plano, Texas; daughters, Barbara Boren and Beverlea Gilbert, both of Plano, Texas; nieces, Carol Patton of College Station, Texas, Michelle Dycus of De Ridder, Louisiana, Binnie Lee Bauml of Lake Jackson, Texas, and Elizabeth Ann Matula of San Antonio, Texas; nephews, Gordon Raatz, Jr. of Tampa, Florida and David Raatz of Anchorage, Alaska; and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Patricia “Joan” Gilbert, and sister, Vernice Richardson. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m., Friday, June 17, 2011, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel in Allen, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation from 2:00 – 3:30 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will take place at 9:15 a.m., on Monday, June 20, 2011, at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to LifeSavers Foundation of Richardson or Plano Animal Shelter.
