James Ronald Gabbard, age 77 of Fairview, Texas, passed away on October 16, 2011. Born June 21, 1934 in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Oral and Mary (Pickett) Gabbard, Jim married Carol Vogt on September 13, 1958 in Cincinnati. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army, was a graduate of Cincinnati University and played the bass. Jim began his work career as an accountant with Arthur Anderson in 1958. By the time he left the company, as a partner in 1975, he had relocated to the San Francisco Bay area. Upon leaving Arthur Anderson, Jim began teaching at Cal State Hayward (now Cal State East Bay) and began his own accounting firm in the Lafayette, California area. Jim and Carol owned and operated Blockbuster Video stores in central California in the early 1990s. Preceded in death by his parents, Jim is survived by his wife, Carol Gabbard of Fairview, Texas; daughter Beth Wright and her husband Rick of Plano, Texas; son Grant Gabbard and his wife Monica of Brentwood, California; son Shane Gabbard of Lafayette, California; grandchildren Brian & Megan Wright and Austen & Shania Gabbard.
