James Charles Engibous

James Charles Engibous, 90, passed away on Thursday, January 16, 2014 in Frisco, Texas. Jim was born in Norway, Michigan on August 12, 1923 to Charles and Evelyn Engibous. A man to whom education was important, Jim graduated from Norway High School, received his bachelor degree from Northern State Normal School (Northern Michigan University), masters from Oregon State University and doctorate from Ohio State University. His schooling was interrupted temporarily due to World War II. Jim proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy as a pilot on the USS Portland. In 1946 Jim married Emma Buck. He worked for Monsanto in St. Louis, Missouri and later International Minerals and Chemical Corporation in Skokie, Illinois. He retired from Washington State University in Pullman Washington as Chair of the Agronomy and Soil Department.

Jim was an active member of Kiwanis as well as several professional organizations and was a 40 year member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pullman. Jim and Em recently moved from Pullman to Frisco, Texas to be closer to family. Jim enjoyed his retirement by spending time on Lake Coeur d'Alene, traveling and reading. He will be fondly remembered by family and friends for his sense of humor.

He is survived by his wife, Emma of 67 years, children: Kathy (Ron) Williams, Tom (Wendy) Engibous and Carole (Bob) White, grandchildren: Wendy (Brandon) Carlson, Ryan (Carly) Engibous, Stump (Shondra) Engibous, Stacy White, Derek (Kassandra) White, Stephanie Engibous, 9 great grandchildren, sisters: Mary and Marge, brother: Dave.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, son Mike, sisters Katey and Alice and brothers John and Bill.

A funeral mass will be at 10:00 am on Thursday, February 6th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pullman, Washington.

Memorials may be made in Jim's name to the Pullman Kiwanis Club Scholarship Program at the Washington State University Foundation.
