James Thornton Boyd, Jr.

James (“Jim”) Thornton Boyd, Jr., age 66, went to be with the Lord on April 29, 2014, after a courageous two year battle with prostate cancer. Jim was at home surrounded by his closest friends and his loving family. Jim was born on July 12, 1947 to James, Sr. and Winn (Griffin) Boyd in Mobile, Alabama, and he married Kim on December 21, 1970.

Jim was a 1969 graduate of Auburn University where he was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. He was a decorated member of the United States Air Force who proudly served during the Vietnam War. Following his service to his country, Jim became a proud member of the Richardson Fire Department where he faithfully served for 25 years until his retirement in 1999. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Carrollton, Texas.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Kim Boyd, of Anna, Texas; two sons, Lee G. Boyd and wife Jessica of Gillette, Wyoming, and Casey T. Boyd and wife Emily of McKinney, Texas; grandson, Andrew James Boyd, of Gillette, Wyoming, and granddaughters McKenley Grace and Parker Pearl Boyd both of McKinney, Texas; sister, Patricia Everett and her husband Stanley of Houston, Texas; brother-in-law Vernon Pugh, Sr. of Mobile, Alabama; his nieces, Ashley Wieck of Mobile, Alabama, and Laura Basso and Stephanie Shanklin, both of Houston, Texas, and Noung Luu of Plano, Texas; and his nephews James Boyd Pugh and Vernon Pugh, Jr. of Mobile, Alabama, and Max Everett of Washington, D.C.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James T. Boyd, Sr. and Winn Griffin Boyd, and his sister Gayle Pugh.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, May 3, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel in Allen, Texas. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation being held Friday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas.
