J. W. (Jimmy) Davis, Jr.

Rev. J.W. (Jimmy) Davis, Jr., age 84 of McKinney, Texas passed away on June 16, 2006 in McKinney. He was born on November 25, 1921 in Bells, Texas to James William and Orpha Mae (Lance) Davis. He married Evelyn Emma Reynolds on June 4, 1939 in McKinney, Texas. During World War II, he was a pilot for a government flying school located in Dallas, Texas. In later years, he was a cost account for Stewart Systems. J.W. was the pastor at Whiterock Baptist Church for over 12 years. Rev. Davis also started Saturday Night In The Country in Farmersville, Texas. He was the first president of the Southwest Bluegrass Club. Through his Country Side of Gospel Music Ministry, he ministered throughout the Southwest at many Indian reservations, as well as many churches nationwide. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Evelyn Davis of McKinney, Texas; daughters, Brenda Moeller and husband, Al also of McKinney; grandchildren, Wendy Herrmann of Ashland, Oregon, Lance Roberts of Huntington Beach, California, and Wesley Roberts of Phoenix, Arizona; great grandchildren, Matthew Lewis, Katherine Lewis, and Wes Roberts; sister-in-law, Ruby Mullins of McKinney, Texas; and several nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Monday, June 19, 2006 in the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel with Bro. Gary Sherrill and Bro. John Hudson officiating. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 7:00 to 9:00 PM, Sunday at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home.
