J.R. Turner, age 85, of Allen, Texas passed away on July 31, 2013. He was born July 27, 1928 in Blue Ridge, Texas to Frank and Nolie (Riddle) Turner. On April 27, 1945, J.R. married Wanda Lee Press in Durant, Oklahoma. He farmed in west Texas for 61 years. J.R. was a former Floyd County Farm Bureau President, and served on various committees and boards in the community. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Floydada, where he was a deacon. J.R. was a private pilot and a real estate broker.
He is survived by his daughters, Carol Smith of Atlanta, Georgia, Kay Roach and husband Jerry of McKinney, Texas, Carmen Moran and husband Scott of Plano, Texas; grandchildren, Renee Himmelbaum and husband Darren of Augusta, Georgia, Turner Roach of New York, New York, Stacy Frazier and husband Tim of Sayre, Oklahoma, Sean Moran and Amanda Moran both of Plano, Texas; great-grandchildren, Samantha Himmelbaum, Sydney Himmelbaum, Sadie Frazier and Andrew Frazier.
J.R. is preceded in death by his parents, Frank Turner and Nolie Turner Howard and wife Wanda Lee Turner.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 3, 2013, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel, in Allen, Texas. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Cemetery, in Blue Ridge, Texas. Family and friends are invited to the funeral home at their convenience on Friday, to pay their respects and to sign the register book.
