Isabel S. Giles

Isabel S. Giles, age 90 years, passed away on December 8, 2006, at her residence at Autumn Leaves in Fairview, Texas. She was born September 28, 1916, near Strawn, Texas, to Nesbert and Rose Stuart and named Georgia Esther Isabel Stuart. She married Eddie Phelps in 1943 and they had three daughters. After Eddie’s death, Isabel married Gerald Giles in 1955 and they had a son. She was preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter (1945), Eddie Phelps (1949) and Gerald Giles (1981). Isabel was a teacher in the true sense of the word. She loved teaching whether it was high school home economics or elementary school. She graduated from John Tarleton Jr. College, Texas Tech University with a bachelor’s degree, and received a Masters of Science degree from North Texas State College. She taught school in Huckabay, Leuders, Strawn, Keller, Weston and McKinney from which she retired in 1979. Isabel had the distinction of teaching in one of the last one-teacher schools in the Texas when she taught all six grades in Weston. Isabel is survived by her children, Isabel (Izzie) S. Waller and husband Perry of McKinney, Sarah Sue Stauffer and husband Ralph of Allen, and Gerald (Gerry) L. Giles, Jr. and wife Laura of Allen; brothers Burton Stuart of Strawn and Jim Stuart and wife Kay of Ulysses, Kansas; grandchildren Stacy Waller Young and husband Cary of Arlington, Angela S. Waller of Plano, Jeremy Giles of Lubbock (Texas Tech University), Kelly Whitley and husband Kevin of Brookston, and Katie Bussell and husband Mark of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and the light of her eyes, her great grandsons, Mason Young and Cade Whitley. Isabel was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Allen, the Friendship Sunday School Class, Allen Retired Teachers Association, McKinney Retired Teachers Association, McKinney Order of the Eastern Star, where she served as Worthy Matron, Allen Order of the Eastern Star, and various other groups which she loved to attend. She was a wonderful cook known for her exceptional cream pies, brownies and peanut brittle. Her steadfast faith in Christ and love for her family made her a precious example for her children and grandchildren to follow. They will all miss her very much but will celebrate her wonderfully fulfilled life in Christ. Services for Isabel will be Friday, December 15, 2006, at 1:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Allen, 601 S. Greenville Avenue, Allen., Texas. Burial will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park.
