Hoyt West Holcomb

Hoyt West Holcomb was born March 24, 1915 in Nobility, Texas to Walter West Holcomb and Cynthia Idella Turman Holcomb. He died Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at UTMB Health in Angleton, TX at the age of 100. He was a long time resident of Sherman, Texas.

Hoyt was a part of the great generation. He proudly served his nation in U.S. Army. He served during World War II in Normandy and the Rhineland, and later he served in Korea. He made a career in the army retiring as a Master Sergeant after 21 years. After retiring from the army, Hoyt served in the Army Corps of Engineers for about 10 years. He was a member of the Western Heights Church of Christ in Sherman.

He is survived by son, Gary Holcomb and wife Danyett of Angleton; son, Charles D. Holcomb and wife Sherry of Clermont, Florida; daughter-in-law, Darla Wilcox of Angleton; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents, Walter West and Cynthia Idella Turman Holcomb; son, Hoyt West Holcomb, Jr.; brothers, O.V. Holcomb, John Duke Holcomb, Don Moses Holcomb, Rev. K. C. Holcomb, Floyd Ray Holcomb; sisters, Velma Grouws Stewart, Annie Lou Todd, and Fannie Mae McCartney.

Graveside Services will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 13, 2015 at Burns Cemetery, Trenton, Texas. Officiating the service will be Mr. Joe Ed Furr. Military Honors will be provided by an U.S. Army Honor Guard from Fort Hood, Texas
