Horace Homer, age 72, of Allen, Texas, passed away July 11, 2010, in McKinney, Texas. Horace was born March 8, 1938, in Hugo, Oklahoma, to Soloman and Velma (Dennis) Homer. He was a proud graduate of Hugo High School in 1957. While attending high school he was an active boxer, track competitor, and football player. After high school he attended Paris Jr. College on a track scholarship. Horace also served in the National Guard and served six months active duty after high school. He married Sandra McCally on March 7, 1961 at the First Christian Church in McKinney, Texas. Horace was an active member of the First Christian Church in McKinney for a number of years. He later became a member of the Melissa Christian Church in Melissa, Texas. Horace retired from Texas Instruments in 1996, but continued to work for Brandywine Apartments in Richardson as their maintenance man beginning in 1997 and continued to work until he became ill two months ago. Horace is a registered member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Homer; daughters, Tracey Wilson and husband, Joey, Angie Marshall and husband, Vernon, and Cynthia Payne and husband, Andy; sisters, Louise Shellhammer, Jo Wagoner, Guinda Hinton, Edna Campbell, Frances Gilreath, and Zada Farley; brother, Bill Homer; grandsons, Michael Homer, Jeremy Wilson, Justin Wilson, and Henry Marshall; great-granddaughter, Madison Wilson; and numerous other loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Gene Homer and Aaron Ross Homer. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel in Allen, Texas with Dr. Mike McConachie officiating. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen. The family will receive friends during a visitation from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Monday evening at the funeral home.
