Herman D. Lawson

Herman D. Lawson, age 77, of McKinney, Texas passed away November 30, 2008. He was born September 5, 1931 in Collin County, Texas to Troy and Floy (Sullivan) Lawson. On June 11, 1954 he married Sarah O’Dell in Celina, Texas. He proudly served in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. Herman received his bachelor’s degree from East Texas State University and his master’s degree from North Texas State University. He started teaching school in the Alla public schools near Celina where he taught for 8 years. He was a teacher, principal and administrator in the McKinney ISD System for 32 years, where he retired in 1989. In honor of his many years of teaching, the Herman Lawson Early Childhood Center was established and will be completed in 2009. Herman was a member of the McKinney Lions Club where he served as president. He was an avid bridge player and a member of the First Baptist Church in McKinney. He is survived by his wife, Sarah Lawson of McKinney; son, Kent Lawson of Dallas, Texas; daughter, Lori Decker and husband, Eric of Allen, Texas; grandson, Andrew Decker of Allen, Texas; sister, Betty Lawson of Garland, Texas; brother, Billy Gene Lawson of McKinney, Texas; niece, Patsy Rogers; nephew, Jimmy Lawson and numerous relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Glen D. Lawson. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at the First Baptist Church in McKinney with Dr. Jeff Warren and Rev. Randy Morlan officiating. Interment will follow at Altoga Cemetery. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Tuesday evening beginning at 6:00 p.m., at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, Allen, Texas. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church McKinney or the McKinney Education Foundation.
