Helen Marie (Brazell) Toler

Helen Marie (Brazell) Toler, a long time resident of Plano, Texas passed away October 4, 2009, at Victoria Gardens Nursing Home in Allen, Texas. Helen was born on February 7, 1921, in Ft. Worth, Texas to Raymond and Irma (Thomas) Brazell. She married J.B. Toler in Plano, Texas on September 7, 1950. She was a member of the West Allen Church of Christ. She is survived by her daughter, Jean Toler and husband, Nolen; son, Pat Taylor and wife, Francis; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers, Crawford Brazell and Thomas Brazell; sisters, Alice Brazell and Margie Brazell (both died while infants); daughter, Carolyn Vandiver; and grandson, Brandon Vandiver. Helen was raised in the community of Little Elm and attended schools in Denton. After graduation from Denton High School, she attended Texas State College for Women (later TWU) in Denton, Texas where she received her teacher’s degree. She proceeded to teach in several one room schools in the Collin County area, including the New Hope and Winningkoff communities. In later years she was a substitute teacher in the Plano schools. For some time, she operated a private first grade school from her home in Plano. During this time she also worked with special education students and tutored children. She was a seamstress and was proud of her sewing skills. Helen was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ and greatly enjoyed the fellowship and friendship of her fellow members. She will be greatly missed by family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 7, 2009, in the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends for a visitation beginning at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday at Turrentine-Jackson- Morrow Funeral Home.
