Helen Corine Huffman Tillerson Virtuous wife, loving mother, adoring “Nannie”, faithful Christian, and devoted teacher Helen Corine Huffman Tillerson went to be with her Lord July 20, 2008. Born on October 3, 1920 in Electra, TX to Fitzhugh Lee and Tompie (Harvey) Huffman, she graduated from Electra High School and from North Texas State Teacher’s College with a BS degree. Later, she received her MS from East Texas State University. On July 20, 1941 she wed her beloved G.W. Tillerson in Waurika, OK; they were blessed with 67 years of marriage. Hospitality flowed endlessly as friends and family gathered to share one of her delicious meals. A member of Bethel Baptist Church, Celina, Texas, she taught her “ladies in waiting” Sunday School class for many years. She taught school throughout Texas for 39 years. Students in Celeste, Melissa, Christoval, Sterling City, Electra, Iowa Park, Arp, and Prosper benefitted from her classroom attention and even more from the love she shared outside the classroom. Bookkeeping, typing, shorthand, English, and general business skills learned under “Mrs. T” helped many students decide to pursue business careers; even more became teachers because of her influence. Her typing and shorthand students won numerous district and regional UIL titles and some state championships. She & G.W. continue to support students through scholarships. Helen is survived by her husband, G.W. Tillerson, of Greenville, TX and two sons and daughters-in-law: Charles & Nancy Tillerson of Irving, TX and Joe & Ruth Tillerson of Arlington, VA. Grandsons and their families are: Jeffrey, Leslie and Bailey Tillerson of Irving, TX, Jim and Julie Tillerson of Albuquerque, NM, and Jay, Anne, Ashley, and Blake Tillerson of North Richland Hills, TX. Her brother, Aldan and wife Wanda Huffman of Palisade, CO also survive her. “Aunt Helen” is also fondly remembered by 5 nieces and nephews: Byron Huffman, Mike Huffman, Sandra Redden, Wayne Pruitt, and Cynthia Ferguson, numerous great nieces and nephews, and sister-in-law, Louise Powers. She was preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter, Elizabeth Tillerson. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 23 from 6-8 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Celina, TX. A Funeral Service will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church, 8382 CR128 near Celina. with Rev. Bob Layman and Rev. Cliff Lester officiating. Honorary pallbearers are Pete Flanery, Louis Thompson, and Marvin Thompson. Pallbearers are Bob Barnard, Byron Huffman, Mike Huffman, Jimmy Rhodes, Gene Smith, Don Tillerson, and Mike Weatherley. Tributes may be made to Bethel Baptist Church or Celeste Booster Club Scholarship.
