Hattie Johnson was born on March 25, 1915 to the parentage of Richard and Hattie Travis, in Jackson, Alabama. She married Oliver Alexander Johnson, Sr. and had four children from their union. Hattie was brought up in the Pentecostal faith and accepted Christ at an early age. She was a productive citizen and worked hard to care for her family. Hattie was a woman of beauty, strength, integrity, and class. She enjoyed gardening, shopping, canning, and attending church. Hattie Lee Gertrude was a force to be reckoned with; and leaves many funny stories to tell and remember. This is the legacy that she leaves behind. Although the stories may not have been funny at the time, there was always a lesson to learn.
She was a faithful member of Phillip Temple of Mobile, Alabama for many years, and worshipped there until moving to Dallas, Texas in May 1999 where she attended Full Gospel Holy Temple, until her health began to fail, which was under the leadership of the late great apostle Murray and Bishop Herman Murray, Jr.
Hattie was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Hattie, husband, Oliver A. Johnson, Sr., siblings, Alice Travis, Lucille Travis, Willie B. Travis, Nettie Travis, Walter Travis, and Richard Travis, Jr., children, Delores Bennett and Oliver Johnson, Jr., and grandson, Gregory Johnson.
Hattie was loved by her family and friends and leaves to mourn daughters, Yarnsean Moore (Solomon) of Allen, Texas and Gloria Smith of Dallas, Texas; eleven grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three sisters-in-law, aunt Betty Andrews of California; aunt Charlesetta Coleman of New York, and aunt Sadie Johnson of Alabama; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was also known by her friends and family as, Madear-Goggie, Aunt Hattie, Hattie Lee, or just Hattie. She will be greatly missed and we will cherish the memories, photos, and all the times that we shared. Our beloved Hattie was called home to take her rest.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 24, 2013, at Full Gospel Holy Temple, 600 N. McDonald St., McKinney, Texas, 75069. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen, Texas. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service.
