Harold Austin Wilkinson

Harold Austin Wilkinson, age 86 of McKinney, TX, passed away January 30, 2006. He was born on September 3, 1919, in Fort Worth, TX to Benjamin McKenzie and Agnes (Cox) Wilkinson. At age 5, his family moved to Vernon, TX graduating from Vernon High School in 1938. He graduated from Southwestern State College in Weatherford, OK in 1942 with a Bachelor of Science, majoring in History with a specialty in Commerce. He received a Masters degree in Education in 1951 and received his Doctor of Education degree in 1961 from Texas Tech. He served in public school administration until a move to Abilene Christian University in 1961 and retired there as professor of education in 1989. He married Leatrice Watson on May 5, 1990 in Prosper, TX. Survivors include his wife Leatrice; stepdaughters, Lynne Hall and husband, Lynn of Little Rock, AR, Gloria Daniel of Dallas, TX, and Laura Cooper and husband Tom of McKinney; grandchildren, Brent Cooper, Curt Cooper, Kara Daniel Horton, Kim Daniel, Chris Hall, and Whitney Hall; great-grandchildren, Allie Cooper and Jennifer Horton; brothers, Richard Wilkinson of Oklahoma City, OK and Fred Wilkinson of Lawton, OK; sister, Jimmie Williams of O’Keene, OK; nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives and friends. His first wife, Willie Evans Wilkinson; one sister, and one brother preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, February 1, 2006, at High Pointe Church of Christ, 3201 N. Central Expressway in McKinney, Craig Williams officiating, assisted by Dr. Michael L. Lewis. Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM Tuesday evening at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, February 2, 2006 at Elmwood Memorial Park in Abilene, Texas. Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers. Memorials may be made to an endowed scholarship in the name of Harold A. Wilkinson at Abilene Christian University or High Pointe Church of Christ Missions.
