H. L. "Cotton" Gunter

Haskel “Cotton” Leon Gunter, age 86, of McKinney, Texas passed away June 11, 2011. He was born October 25, 1924 in Collin County, Texas to James T. Gunter and Sadie (Smith) Gunter. On January 6, 1945 he married Catherine Morris in Howe, Texas. Cotton lived in Collin County all of his life. He farmed and was instrumental in bringing the okra crop to Collin County. He helped establish the Pinto Horse Association in Collin County. Cotton worked 18 years for Collin County as a heavy equipment operator until his retirement in 1991. He enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Catherine Gunter of McKinney, Texas; daughters, Donna Jean Wilmeth of McKinney, Texas, Delores Ann Smith of McKinney, Texas, Kristy Diane Wallace and husband, Brian of Prosper, Texas; grandchildren, Benny Wayne Wilmeth, Kimberly Renee Harpole and husband, Chad, Kevin Ray Dane and wife, Brandi, Alan Michael Dane, Carrie Janelle Smith, Stephen Wallace, Shannon Michelle Harrod and Kristany Dawn Harrod; thirteen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister and one granddaughter. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel with Rev. Harvey Morris officiating. Interment will follow at Fitzhugh Cemetery, Forest Grove Community. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Monday evening beginning at 6:00 p.m., at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, Allen, Texas.
