Mr. H.E. “Doc” Ritchey, age 89, of McKinney, Texas passed away June 3, 2007. He was born December 23, 1917, in Wills Point, Texas to Nathaniel and Mary Edna (Gilbert) Ritchey and was the youngest of twelve children. On May 4, 1946, he married Margaret Angel in Sherman, Texas. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in McKinney and worked in administration at the VA Hospital in McKinney for many years. Mr. Ritchey was an Insurance Representative for the Woodmen of the World and worked for the Texas Education Agency as a registrar. He proudly served in the United States Army and was a veteran of World War II, where he received the Campaign Medal with 3 bronze Stars, the American Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Doc is remembered as a loving husband and father who had a keen interest in sports, particularly baseball. He loved being involved with his children’s activities and coached Beverly’s and Annette’s softball teams and Rex’s baseball teams. Outside of his baseball interest, Doc had a passion for SMU athletics, particularly the heyday of the Ponies dating back to the Rose Bowl days decades ago. The kids all know the stories of Doc and Margaret catching the Interurban to Dallas, or hitchhiking, just to attend the SMU football games. He could still recite the play by play of the games of the thirties and forties. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Angel Ritchey of McKinney; daughter, Beverly Eubanks and her husband, Larry of Plano; son Rex Ritchey and his wife, Kim of Prosper; grandchildren, Erin Finseth and her husband, Peter of Frisco, Jarret Eubanks and his wife, Katie of Richardson, Lauren Rucker of Atlanta, Georgia and Brian Rucker of Plano; great-grandchildren, Kendall, Caden and Jacob Finseth all from Frisco; brother, Spence Ritchey and his wife, Sarah of Plano and a host of other family members and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, Nathaniel and Mary Ritchey and his daughter, Annette Ritchey Robles. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 6, 2007, in the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel with Dr. Jim Palmer and Dr. John Allen officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Allen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00 PM, Tuesday, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, 505 LBJ Fwy, Ste 250, Dallas, TX 75244 or to the charity of your choice.
