Gyneth McCarley Rowell Mergen, age 91, of McKinney, Texas, passed away March 24, 2008, in McKinney. Gyneth was born February 28, 1917, in Blue Ridge, Texas, to Roy W. and Zelma (Moyers) McCarley. Gyneth graduated from East Texas State Teacher’s College in 1940 with a Bachelor’s of Science degree and in 1952 with a Master’s in Education. She married V. E. (Jack) Rowell on January 18, 1941 in Emory, Texas. Later, she married Leo Mergen on May 15, 1983 in Durant, Oklahoma. Gyneth was a school teacher for many years. She was also a member of the Retired Teacher’s Association, a former member of the Art Club, and Gas Lighter’s Book Club. Gyneth attended First Baptist Church of McKinney where she was active in the Forever Young group and Ruth’s class. She is survived by her brothers, Billy N. McCarley from Bonham, Texas, Tim McCarley and his wife, Connie of Blue Ridge, Texas, and Mickey McCarley and his wife, Pam, also of Blue Ridge, Texas; a number of nieces, nephews and other loving relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, V.E. (Jack) Rowell, second husband, Leo Mergen, brothers, Von Roy McCarley and Thomas Douglas McCarley, and niece, Ann Lavon McCarley. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, March 27, 2008, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel in Allen, Texas with Rev. Randy Morlan officiating. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Wednesday evening beginning at 6:00 PM at the funeral home.
