Gladys Jewell Ausburn Stapp passed from this life February 19, 2013 in Leonard, Texas. Family visitation will be Thursday February 21, 2013 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Chapel in Leonard, Texas. Funeral Services will be held Friday, February 22, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Leonard beginning at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in the Leonard Cemetery.

Gladys was born on August 4, 1914 in Ivanhoe, Texas to Charlie Horace and Gussie Ella Wilson Ausburn. She married Arthur Robert Stapp on April 20, 1935 in Greenville, Texas. Gladys grew up in Celeste and graduated from Celeste High School. She would then live in Leonard the rest of her life. She enjoyed playing bridge with her daughters, gardening and sewing. Gladys made many dresses and uniforms for her girls as they participated in many different events. She had been a member of the First Baptist Church of Leonard since 1935.

She is survived by her brother, Charles Ausburn of Rockwall, Texas; daughter, Jane Blackerby of Leonard, Texas; daughters and sons-in-law, Martha and Dennis Braddock, of Springfield, Virginia, Vicky and Darrell Edwards of Tyler, Texas and Becky and Richard Parr of Ann Arbor, Michigan; Grandchildren Scott Blackerby, Mark Blackerby, John Blackerby, Kristin Brinton, Drew Braddock, Janet Jernigan, Robert Edwards, and Victoria Parr; Great-Grandchildren Seth Blackerby, Brooke Blackerby, Ella Blackerby, Avery Blackerby, Joshua Jernigan, Caleb Jernigan, Jacob Edwards, Allison Edwards, Madison Edwards, Evelyn Brinton, and Samantha Brinton. Mrs. Stapp was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brothers: Richard Ausburn and Floyd Ausburn, and sister, Opal Latimer.

Pallbearers will be Scott Blackerby, Mark Blackerby, John Blackerby, Robert Edwards, Drew Braddock, Seth Blackerby, and Doug Latimer. Brother Denny Gorena of First Baptist Church will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Leonard (P.O. Box 1146, Leonard, TX 75452), the Leonard Preservation League (P.O. Box 450, Leonard, TX 75452), or Boy Scout Troop 156 (P.O. Box 67, Leonard, TX 75452).
